It's not a menu!

I was recently reminded of a conversation I had several years ago with a deeply religious person.  I don't recall what led to the conversation with my friend, but I do vividly remember the comment that was made to me: "Well you can't just pick and choose what you believe!  It's not a smorgasbord!"  I was so surprised that I did not respond. 

You should know that, while I respect those who are immersed in a religion, I follow no established religion myself.  I believe that all paths to enlightenment and love are valid, as we each create our own world.  The God that I understand gave us free will!

Are we to believe something because "everyone else does," or (as I once heard in a church) "But that's what we believe!"? That's not my choice. God gave me an intelligent brain, a loving soul, and the wisdom to decide what my life is about, and I know what is "truth" for me.  I DO believe that it's a smorgasbord, and I plan to savor the deliciousness of every thought, idea, and concept that comes to me, as I create my abundantly rich and tasty life!
