Did you plant a garden this spring? Isn’t it fun to watch the seeds and sprouts growing toward the light? What seeds have you been planting in your spirit? What goals, intentions, dreams have you created? What have you wanted to change about yourself?
You probably know that I’m a student of Law of Attraction, by whatever name you choose to give it. I believe that I co-create my life by planting seeds of desire, fostering them to growth by focusing on what makes me happy, and nurturing them to fruition. For me, every new idea becomes a seed, and how and whether I choose to nurture it becomes my life.
I’ve recently had so many “downloads” from Spirit, with new experiences, new friends, new teachers, and I am so excited about the expansion. Soon I will be moving to a new home – more new experiences, new friends, new teachers! I can hardly wait to see what grows there!

For me, God is in the dirt…and the green things, and the creatures. Every day I see the miracles of this wonderful co-creation called Earth. Especially in the spring here in NE Ohio, I treasure the refreshment, the re-emergence of life we experience. As I type this, the birds are singing, the grass is vivid emerald, and the trees outside my window are soft with baby leaves. As we know, everything is energy, and now especially I am grateful for the increased activity in nature, after a long and bitter winter of nature’s rest. Isn’t it a miracle that the changing light – a miracle itself – triggers such amazing change in the natural world? For those of you who garden, isn’t it a miracle to watch a seed push through the soil to reach that light? What causes that? What innate intelligence creates that growth? Whatever you choose to believe, savor the growth, the spring, the dirt. Value it for the gift that is the natural world. And do what you can to preserve it! When I was growing up there were still expectations of the careers and lifestyles of women and men. I think of the television shows that were popular decades ago, showing a man going off to “the office” and his wife, dressed in jewelry and heels, staying home to take care of the house. Occasionally we were shown alternatives, with women as secretaries or nurses or teachers. So many of us slide into roles that others expect of us. When do we learn what we expect of ourselves? One of my goals in my work is to encourage people who have a “calling,” a strong desire to create a career path that really speaks to the heart. If this sounds like you, what ARE you waiting for? Whether your belief is that God created you for a purpose, or that you create your own purpose, what if that yen, that desire is your purpose?
Don’t hold back. Don’t dam up the river that will lead to your best life. Find some way of starting NOW, even in small ways, and you will find that the dam will break down and, as Michael Beckwith says, "the Universe will correspond to the nature of your song." Remember, the world needs you and your gifts!
I recently had a conversation with a close friend about how odd we've both been feeling lately, and I have been reading similar stories from spiritual communities I'm involved with. Our earth and our way of life is shifting energetically, and those of us who are sensitive to energy are really feeling the shakeup. No worries, it's all good! Have you seen news stories of great archaeological discoveries being made after an earthquake clears an area? Or an item of great value being found after a home renovation? In these cases, as now, the shakeup was necessary to bring wonderful things to light.
For example, I've been lately experiencing out-of-the-blue memories of challenges, arguments, difficult situations, and at first I wondered why. However I noticed a pattern, and now each time this happens, I know that it is the necessary clearing to unveil the treasure. I bless the past situation, the memory, the people involved, and move on. The same with physical symptoms my friend and I have felt - we bless the sensation, eagerly await the unveiling, and move on. What do you sense is clearing from your life? Don't fear the shift - go with it, and enjoy the treasure! Are you old enough to remember the popular toys from the 1970s, Weebles? They were plastic figures with a weighted bottom so when they were tapped they'd wobble but not fall over, much like the later punching bags that are still available. What on earth does that have to do with Abraham, and who the heck is Abraham anyway? "Abraham" is the name given to the energy channeled by Esther Hicks (Abraham-Hicks.com), and is one of the originators in our time of powerful teachings about how we create our lives. For decades, this collective consciousness has guided millions of people around the world through concepts such as co-creation, law of attraction, and intention. I've been studying this work for a long time now, and recently was thrilled to be able to attend an Abraham workshop live. Although I am still reeling from the wealth of knowledge I obtained that morning, the key concept that struck me is that of wobbling. When we set an intention ("I want to...") followed by a condition ("...but...") we create an energetic wobble between the two. Wobble, confusion, creates a block between you and what you want. As I learned from Abraham, key to clear conscious focus on your desires is staying with the "I want."
Try it yourself. Throw your left hand into the air and say "I want" and state one of your goals. Immediately throw out your right hand and say "but..." and state a condition ("but I don't have it...but I don't know how...."). Notice the strong shift in your body? Now once again throw your left hand out and firmly state an intention. Do it again. And again. That's the key to manifestation - a firm stance, no wobbling! It's finally spring here in Northeast Ohio, and thoughts are at last turning to the greening and flowering of the trees, the preparation of our gardens, and the sowing of seeds. Besides our actual physical gardens, we need to pay attention to the spiritual seeds we plant as well. I have just shut the door on a casual "acquaintanceship" with someone who has planted dark, angry seeds, and is now struggling with the crop she has sown. I refuse to allow this person's weeds to affect my own prosperous garden of "light seeds."
The vast majority of my friends and relationships choose light, choose to plant seeds of hope at the very least, and joy at the greatest. Examine your words, your actions, your creations - what crop are you prepared for when your seeds have come to bloom? Right this minute, on the cusp of a new year, STOP IT! Stop being harsh to yourself, stop scolding, "shoulding," rushing, blaming. Do you ever catch yourself with self-talk you would never use on a loved one?
Self love means nourishing yourself, guiding yourself, not worrying and punishing yourself. If you do not have love for the self, how can you properly have love for others? It all comes back to the frequently-used analogy of the airplane's oxygen mask. Take care of yourself first so that you can help others. FIRST...not instead-of, not in-spite-of, not only...FIRST. In my work I have occasionally caught myself completing tasks for clients first, before those I need to accomplish for my own personal or professional life. The awareness is a good thing - a "re-routing" on my GPS. Mixing metaphors freely here, if I don't ensure that my well is full and I allow it to run dry, there's no water for any of us! Choose to pay attention to your self-talk, and be gentle. Instead of "Well that was a stupid thing to do," try "I could have made a better decision and next time I will." Rather than "Oh, crap, you fool - you forgot to.....," try "I choose to use this new method to manage my time and my tasks." Focus on all the wonderful things you know about yourself, and remind yourself of them every day - preferably in a mirror. And soon, your well will be abundant and flourishing with sweet water for all! Thoreau said: "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." I chose this quote very deliberately when I designed my website. It is the nature of my work! Healers, teachers, intuitives are usually right-brain people. In the years I have worked with this client base, the majority of my clients have brilliant dreams and uplifting things to teach, but trouble with the execution. Are they lacking in something? Absolutely not! “The lovers, the dreamers, and me.” We all learn differently, think differently, and communicate differently. Some are very left-brain, analytical, precise, and others are very right-brain, creative, big-picture. In the skill testing I’ve had, I fall somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, and so I make a good bridge between the hemispheres! There are many reasons right-brainers may have trouble with execution:
If you’re one of those dreamers, keep on dreaming! But be sure to delegate to a skilled, trusted associate so that your dreams are captured and made a physical reality! If you are one of the people, or know one of the people, whose heart is in their left brain (get it?), then my book, The Spiritual Virtual Assistant: A Guide to Supporting Holistic Practitioners, may be for you. If you are the practitioner, spread the word that this resource exists to teach more assistants how to support the dreamers. There are not nearly enough support staff like me to support the number of heart-based workers - please spread the word that this is a wonderful career opportunity! The name of the “supreme being” has been debated, fought over, written about and whispered for millennia. Having a Judeo-Christian foundation, I have chosen to use “God” as the term for the Creator. In the context of my life, the label does not matter – the concept is the important part. Whether you use the term universal consciousness, Allah, Almighty, Higher Power, Goddess or any other name you choose, the foundation of enlightened teaching is that a universal energy, a real force, exists. It is the energy with which you co-create, with which you co-exist, and within which you co-exist. This God-energy is not Michelangelo’s old man in heaven, nor a vengeful judging dictator who will smite you down, nor a benevolent grandfather, but instead an all-pervasive energy of love. And when we learn how to tap in and live in that love-force, our lives will change forever. I know – mine did!
In our Midwest colloquial language we refer to the twilight of the year as "fall" more often than "autumn." I assume that's because of the falling of the leaves, but I don't know the origin. The season signals a shift in light, a change in weather, and the accompanying change in our lifestyles and moods. So go ahead. Fall down. The world looks different from the ground.- Oprah Winfrey I just had a fall of another sort. Confession time: I "fell down" on the job. Good ol' Holly, she can handle it, no problem, bring on the work! And in my bravado, I made some mistakes. HORRORS! I was reminded of my humanity. I was reminded of my boundaries. Reminded that my expertise is based on having the time to produce the quality results that I normally produce. And so my falling down was a great time to shift.
The world indeed looks different from the ground - with a new viewpoint, I was provided the opportunity to renew my procedures. I was, in a very firm and powerful way, reminded by Spirit that I need to take care of MY business and MY life before providing to others. And reminded to provide to others within my abilities, so that I can serve honorably. And so, now that I've given confession to you, my readers, I absolve myself by taking action toward a new way of living and working. And that feels really good!
